Tier 3 — Fieldcraft
The four Foundations in Tier 3 — Fieldcraft are force multipliers. Skills, Gear, Mobility, and Mindset don't replace Essentials or Infrastructure — they make every other Foundation more effective, more durable, and more recoverable when something fails.
Fieldcraft is the difference between owning gear and being able to use it under stress, between having a plan and being able to execute it when the plan starts failing in contact with reality. The most critical survival tool weighs three pounds and lives between your ears; the next-most-critical are the skills your hands already know.
You don't have to finish Essentials or Infrastructure before building Fieldcraft — you build all three tiers in parallel, starting where your gaps are biggest.
The four Fieldcraft Foundations
-
Fire, navigation, knots, carpentry, and repair. Gear breaks and supplies run out — skills are permanent.
-
Knives, axes, multitools, bags, and kits. What to own, how to maintain it, and what to carry daily.
-
Vehicles, evacuation routes, fuel, bicycles, boats, and rucking on foot. Your Plan B when staying isn't safe.
-
Resilience, stress management, decision-making under pressure, and group morale. The most critical survival tool weighs three pounds.
How the four interact
Fieldcraft Foundations compound. A Skills page on knot work pays back across Shelter, Mobility, and Gear. A Mindset page on OODA loops pays back every time you have to make a decision under pressure — in Medical, in Security, in evacuation. Mobility plans depend on Gear that depends on Skills that depend on the Mindset to use them.
The Fieldcraft tier is where the "field-tested over theory" principle on Survipedia gets cashed in. Read these pages with the assumption that you will, eventually, need to perform the procedure cold, with the wrong gear, in bad conditions. Then practice.
