Shelter & Home Hardening

This guide is currently in production. It will cover emergency shelter construction, residential hardening against natural and human threats, and permanent alternative building methods for off-grid living.

Planned chapters include:

  • Threat triage and shelter priority assessment
  • Warmth systems and thermal envelope management — sleeping system R-values, VBL usage, thermal layering for field shelters (source: Insulation)
  • Emergency shelters: tarp, debris hut, snow, vehicle
  • Intermediate options: cabins, yurts, wall tents
  • Home hardening: fire, flood, storm, intrusion
  • Infrastructure: water, power, sanitation integration
  • Permanent alternatives: cob, earthbag, timber frame, containers
  • Decision matrix: which shelter for which scenario

For immediate shelter guidance, see the Shelter Foundation pages.
